Auto-Stacking in ACDSee Photo Studio 2027 can automatically organize similar images and videos into stacks.

This article explains how Auto-Stacking works with the current File List, how file selections affect the command, and how Auto-Stacking works with files stored in different locations.

1. Auto-Stacking works with the current File List

Auto-Stacking works on the images and videos in the current Manage Mode File List. You cannot currently select a folder in the File List and auto-stack that folder's contents; only the images and videos currently visible in the File List will be stacked.

Folders cannot be added to a stack, either manually or with Auto-Stack.

The Stack menu behaves like the other menus in the File List: Filter, Group, Select, and View all apply to the current File List, whether you have files, folders, or nothing selected.

2. Auto-Stacking selected items

When you select two or more items and run Auto-Stack, it runs on what you've selected. So, if your selection is all folders (which can't be stacked), Auto-Stack has nothing valid to work with, and nothing is stacked.

3. Auto-Stacking with OneDrive and other storage locations

Auto-Stack works on files stored on local disks, removable drives, and network drives, including a NAS.

Auto-Stack is disabled for files stored on OneDrive because it relies on metadata that online files don't expose. GPS and EXIF Date/Time Original aren't available, and AI Image Similarity can't run. This is by design and is mentioned in the Help File.

The alternatives were to stack only the local files and silently skip the rest, or to force the whole folder to download. So, this command is disabled in this scenario. Manual stacking has no such restriction, as it's a pure database operation.
